There are times that I get surprised by a sudden, and unexplained change in the business environment. I hope you caught it this past week.
If you didn't were you out there "trolling" with your marketing" or is it possible that your marketing isn't working up to the level it should be?
I can remember going fishing with my Dad. We'd be trolling along in our fishing boat, that's where your fishing lure is being pulled along behind the boat as you move slowly through the water. Your lure is always out there being drug past fish. Some just can't refuse that lure swimming by and they pounce.
Well, even in bad times such as this recession has been you can't stop trolling.
If you shut your marketing down, thinking you'll come back out later when your marketing will be more efficient, you'll miss out when things do start happening.
In fact, shutting your marketing down in bad times is one of the biggest mistakes many businesses make. It's a way of going out of business. Your marketing should actually be out there even more in bad times. You'll still be catching those fish when everyone else is setting back at home telling everyone that "times are bad."
In any case, I was surprised this past week, several times in fact as there were several major spurts in my marketing results.
I had refocused my business. Although I'm mainly a small business coach, I also provide various forms of training to larger companies, customer service training, marketing, sales, leadership, management, supervision, and time management. But, due to the success I've had in small business coaching I had decided that I was putting 100% of my time there and might drop the others. After thinking about that, I decided to leave the training programs on my website, but I wasn't going to spend that much time marketing them any more. But the website is out there steadily trolling for me in the training market.
One of the things I had decided is that even if I'm focusing on just small business coaching that I can still "troll" along in those other areas using my website strength to bring work to others that still want to provide training. I'll pass along the work that my website brings that I will not personally provide any longer.
In any case, something happened this past week that surprised me. I had been getting slow but steady website sales for training, but this past week calls for coaching went through the roof, and calls for training picked up. And yesterday . . . WOW. My phone started ringing yesterday morning, and kept ringing at a new level, customer service training, sales training, time management training from many local companies. I'd be on the phone and another would call.
I tell my clients that a coach's phone is somewhat of a "leading economic indicator" in that a few weeks before some economic announcement or change of the business environment my phone would start picking up, or slowing down, whichever the case would be for the new situation that was coming.
So, it's possible that something major is coming. Are you out there trolling with your marketing now? Or have you puckered and pulled your marketing back in?
Do you have your marketing TUNED UP so that it's capturing the largest percentage of those that your marketing lure swims by?
One of the things we covered in last Thursday's teleseminar (did you catch it?) was the fact that most coaches' websites are only pulling in 0.1% of those that see your website, and that it isn't being seen by many at that. But 5%+ should be achieveable for most coaches which is 50 times more clients than the average coach will ever see. And I even discussed how some of my web pages are converting over 40%, that's 400 times more clients!
We discussed ways to fix that to get you trolling by the 200,000 that are looking for a coach monthly, and starting to capture 5% or more.
The coaching and training market must have just moved up a notch this past week, they woke up and decided that they needed help. Maybe the slow market kicked them in the butt and made them think it was time to fix their current situation, or maybe optimism picked up a bit. In any case . . . have you seen it happen for you?
